About Bob Smith Toyota - a La Crescenta New & Used Toyota Dealership

         Thank You for your patronage!  Our commitment to customers has created a successful business family that now spans 4 generations. In 1934 at the start of the post-Depression, Bob Smith Sr. moved to Southern California and opened a Dodge-Plymouth store in the Glendale area with partner Harry Golden and named the dealership Smith-Golden. 1946 brought the death of the senior Smith and his son, Bob, took over.

    * In 1951, Bob bought his partner out and changed the name of the dealership to Bob Smith Dodge-Plymouth and this began the "Bob Smith" name, synonymous with the quality and excellence in Southern California.

    * 1963 found Bob selling the Dodge-Plymouth store in Glendale, then moving to Hollywood and becoming one of the first Volkswagen-Porsche dealers in the local area.

    * In 1969, Audi was opened in Hollywood and then many years later Mitsubishi was added. Bob's sons all followed him into the business and grew up washing cars, learning mechanics, becoming salesmen and eventually after graduating from college finding their way into management.

    * In 1973 with the Hollywood franchises flourishing, Bob Smith ventured into selling BMW in Canoga Park. As the business grew, Bob's sons Mike and Tim bought into partnership with their dad. Bob eventually retired in the late 1980's after more than 50 years selling cars. Tim now owns the BMW store located in Calabasas, where his two daughters Anne and Catherine are in management.

    * 1993 found Mike and Tim buying the Toyota store, located in La Crescenta. Now Mike and his son Pete, who found his way into business just like his dad, own and operate the Toyota store. "My great-grandfather's as well as my grandfather's, my father's and now my philosophy centers on the principle of treating the customer the way I would like to be treated," states Pete Smith.

"Take care of your customers and everything else will fall in place" has remained the mission statement of Bob Smith Toyota, which is now part of the 92 years of Smith history in the automobile business, 75 of which are in Southern California.
