Since its introduction just a couple of years ago, the next-generation Prius PHEV – called the 2020 Toyota Prius Prime – has skyrocketed in popularity. As PHEV and BEV vehicles become more and more popular, you can rest assured that hybrid-technology leader Toyota will be following this trend. The RAV4 Hybrid has likewise proven to be one of the most popular versions of the compact crossover, so now Toyota has announced the addition of a new trim level for the iconic SUV: the 2020 Toyota RAV4 Prime. We figured we’d highlight those specs to show you what Toyota has planned.

What engine does it use?
The RAV4 Prime will be powered by an altered 2.5L 4-cylinder gasoline engine from the standard RAV4 Hybrid but gets paired with new electric motors that enable the crossover to generate a total of 302 horsepower. Toyota even announced that it has a projected 0-60 mph time of 5.8 seconds, which is pretty quick for an electrified vehicle of its size!
How efficient is it?
Official fuel economy ratings have, of course, not yet been released. We imagine the regular fuel economy ratings will put the vehicle in a place slightly superior to the RAV4 Hybrid. But when operating on pure electricity, Toyota has projected an estimated 90 MPGe. That’s pretty outstanding! To put it in perspective, the Prius Prime achieves 133 MPGe.
Of course, performance & efficiency aren’t the only aspects of the RAV4 Prime. There is plenty of other content to get excited about, so be sure to check back on our blog down the road to stay up to date on the new model!
